Ingredients

  • 40g butter 
  • 2 carrots, finely chopped 
  • 2 sticks of celery, finely chopped 
  • 500ml chicken stock 
  • 25g plain flour 
  • 2 cloves of garlic, crushed 
  • 400g minced beef 
  • 50ml low fat milk 
  • 2 onions, finely chopped 
  • 100g frozen peas 
  • 500g potatoes, peeled and chopped 
  • 1 tbsp tomato purée 
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce 

Instructions

1. Heat oven to 180C/ 160C Fan/ 350F /gas 4 2. Place potatoes in a pot with enough cold water to cover them and bring to boil 3. Turn down heat and simmer gently until potatoes are soft 4. Drain the water. Add milk, butter, and mash well. Set aside for later 5. Melt half the butter in a pan over a medium heat 6. Add onions, celery, carrots, and garlic and cook for 5 minutes until soft 7. Increase heat to high and add minced beef, stirring until well browned 8. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute 9. Add the chicken stock, tomato puree, Worcestershire sauce, and peas 10. Bring to the boil then reduce heat and simmer for 5 - 7 minutes 11. Place mince mixture into ovenproof dish and top with mashed potato 12. Bake for about 30 minutes until golden on top
